My Dad was a taxi driver and a firefighter. He worked odd end jobs to keep our family afloat. At one point, he even was a bodyguard for some rich family in Mexico. My mom was a lawyer who graduated from University. She was practicing law, but she was a lawyer defending the poor, so she was not making a lot of money.
My family was not making great money, but we were living. While we were living in Puebla, we had to sell our possessions to make ends meet. It wasn’t just my family doing bad at this time, the whole economy was tanking, and no one was prosperous.
We lived for a year in Puebla with my mom, while my Dad was here in the States, in New Jersey actually. He came for a year then came back to get us, starting our travels to Des Moines.
